Words of Peace
Some churches practice the passing of the peace before communion. It is a time to greet the saints by saying the peace of Christ to you. There is a practical side of passing the peace. It enables you to quickly make things right that might not be. It also may force you to look someone in the eye who is a brother or a sister but with whom you are at odds.
Our version of passing of the peace is looking around the room when we partake of the bread and the wine. We are thankful to God for giving us His peace in Christ and we desire to be at peace with all men, from our closest neighbors, our spouses and family, to our extended neighbors, those we worship God with.
As we look around at one another, be mindful of the peace you pass to others. Let it be sincere and heartfelt. If there is something amiss and you have a hard time looking your brother or sister in the eye, pray about it, confess your sins or forgive your brother or sister, or both, and get things right. And thus be at peace with God and man.
