Food for Life

We come to the Lord’s Table every week and eat bread and drink wine. We do this to show the Lord’s death until He comes again. It is a meal of Thanksgiving to God. It is His memorial to us, that He will keep His promises to us in Jesus Christ, having nailed our sins to the cross, and having raised us from the dead as He raised Jesus from the dead. It is a weekly reminder that we are God’s children and that He is our Father and the sort of Father who is pleased with His children.

For those who partake of this meal believing all of this to be true, they receive the very thing offered to them in these edible signs. What is that thing? It is the person of Jesus Christ, body and Spirit. We are made partakers and recipients of eternal life by grace through faith. This meal, this little portion of bread and a sip of wine, is food for life because as we partake in faith we receive the One who is our life, the Lord Jesus Christ.
