Deacon Honor

2025

A church needs congregants, pastors and elders to be a church.

It needs good deacons to be a good church.

God has sent us just such men.

It is my privilege and honor to serve Jesus with them.

They make it all the easier to preach and pray

As they do much work from day to day

That enables the pastors and elders to do

The main things that God has called them to.

And especially on the day of rest

Our deacons are really at their best

To prep and plan without you aware

So you can worship the Lord without a care.

Do you fully comprehend the sacrifice

Of these good men who pay the price

Of their time, concern, and their family, too

To bless Christ’s Church, Providence, you.

It is not money that makes it worth their while

But approval from Jesus is what makes such men smile.

Tim Fletcher, oldest of these deacon men.

Almost from the beginning he has been

A man about Providence strong and bold.

And now it seems he’s growing old.

Akers brothers, Andrew and Nathan.

Good breeding has a pair of good sons made them.

Drew Bonner, realtor, hoopster, coiner

To Providence, gladly, he’s been a joiner.

Andrew Todd our newest man

Who can do this? He says, I can.

And lastly, Bobby Thoburn, mention.

Give to him our brief attention.

He’s moving on to the Oregon Trail.

Where the Lord will fill his sail,

With new adventures from Him who’s hand

Will lead the Thoburns to the promised land.

In Christ will be his hope and stay.

We will miss him every day.

That’s all I’ve got say

About our deacons today.

Good men all I’m sure you agree.

So, hoist a glass in their names with me.

Deacons, this I honor to you I do.

The Lord establish, bless, and keep you.
